- My name is Anousith PHONETHASITH, and I was born in a small village in Muang Ngoi district, about 150 kilometres from Luang Prabang. After primary school, I went on to become a novice at Wat Choumkong in Luang Prabang. During the four years that I spent as a novice, I had the opportunity to learn many things from the temple life. Many of the stencil motifs that I use are originally from temples in Luang Prabang, especially Wat Xieng Thong, the oldest and most significant monastery in the city. It is very important to me personally that these beautiful traditional designs are preserved into the future. Now I am studying English at Souphanouvong University in Luang Prabang and hope to become an English teacher. I also work on my stencil art and help my brother at his shop, Yensabai Books and Art. I have also been commissioned to use my stencil work for decorating homes, guesthouses, hotels and restaurants….
